Criteria for nominations for Master Teacher Awards:
The teacher nominations should contain some or all of the following. The teacher shall:
- Have attained a reputation among peers for excellence
- Have high expectations for students and themselves
- Have attained a reputation among students and parents as an effective teacher
- Have significantly improved students’ understanding of mathematics
- Have a strong content foundation in the area of mathematics
- Motivate students to study mathematics
- Employ effective teaching methods
- Not be a textbook orientated teacher
- Have displayed goals that go beyond preparing students for the next grade level
- Have involvement in mathematics competitions for students
- Participate in professional activities
- Be an active member of the SMTS
- Share with colleagues
- Represent the profession in a positive manner
Selection committee: The selection committee will consist of three or four members of the SMTS executive.

Dear Administrator
The Saskatchewan Mathematics Teachers’ Society (SMTS) will again recognize strong and effective teaching of mathematics in the province. Master Teacher awards, will be offered according to years of teaching experience and grade levels taught. Awards are presented in each of the following categories:
K-5 Less than 10 years teaching experience K-5 More than 10 years teaching experience 6-9 Less than 10 years teaching experience 6-9 More than 10 years teaching experience 10-12 Less than 10 years teaching experience 10-12 More than 10 years teaching experience Life Time Achievement Award
The SMTS will be accepting nominations until June 20th, 2008 (contact person- Karen Campbell). The awards will be presented at the Sciematics Conference in Saskatoon on October 10th, 2008.
Please distribute the enclosed information sheet and application form to math personnel and encourage participation. Please feel free to nominate worthy candidates and to encourage others to forward nominations.
